Professional Certificate Courses

In order to make its educational offerings available to professionals and others interested in furthering their knowledge or job skills through related human-dog studies, the Institute offers professional certificate programs in addition to its Associate of Science degree programs. The Institute issues a “Certificate of Completion” to students successfully completing one of its seminars and training programs. This certificate indicates that the student has demonstrated the knowledge and abilities required by the coursework. For details about applying, check out Admission Requirements and How to Enroll.

Service Dog Training Seminar
Assistance Dog Education 9.5 units
This six-week intensive service dog training course prepares assistance dog trainers and program staff to train and place service dogs with individuals with disabilities. Using the most up-to-date methodologies, the seminar expands upon the knowledge of existing service dog programs, helps other assistance dog programs begin service dog training, and helps new programs get started.
High Schooled Assistance Dog Instructor
Assistance Dog Education 2.5 units
Requirements for HS A-Dog Instructor licensing include successful completion of our 50 hour HS A-Dog Instructor course taught concurrently with the Service Dog Seminar or the Assistance Dog Education program. The Instructor course covers the use of the HS A-Dog curriculum while providing student-teaching experience with at-risk teens.
Assistance Dog Client Training
Assistance Dog Education 3 units
At the conclusion of each service dog’s training, its soon-to-be human partner is required to attend a two-week training camp to learn the necessary handling techniques to get the best out of their canine helpmate. Ninety commands are taught to the human partner along with their ”how to” application, dog management skills and canine health care.
Social/Therapy Team Training
Assistance Dog Education 1 unit
The Institute’s 17-hour Social/Therapy training prepares the handler/dog team to visit people in a variety of settings including nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and hospice environments. The course, based on the Bonnie Bergin’s BASICS & ABC’S of the SMARTEST SOCIAL/THERAPY DOG TRAINING, teaches health and interaction protocols together with dog training exercises.
Teacher/Parent Training
Human-Canine Life Sciences 2 units
Like the People Management seminar, the Teacher/Parent Training seminar uses dog training as the basis for learning about and understanding human behavior, child behavior and appropriate teacher/parent handling and teaching techniques.

  People Management Training
Human-Canine Life Sciences 2 units
Motivating employees is of utmost importance to any business. The Institute presents a unique personnel management training that puts service dogs in the hands of the attendees, and requires that they train dogs for individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities often times lack the physical mobility to force responses. For this reason, service dogs must work because they want to, like to, and enjoy the results of their efforts. What better employee? The same motivational management techniques that are successful with our dogs are taught via lecture and reinforced during the service dog training exercises.
