The Institute is continually
gathering and analyzing data relating to the dogs and their
human counterpart. Data collection and analysis is often part
of a students coursework as the Institute, its faculty
and staff continue to seek better, more in-depth and up-to-date
information relating to its mission of Helping Dogs
Help People.
In addition, the Institute works to track its graduates and
their accomplishments to provide accurate information for
incoming students about professional and career possibilities.

Vine Mealy Bug Research Project
In February 2006, the Associated Press distributed
a story about our research project to train dogs to detect
via scent the vine mealy bug, a devastating pest, in grape
vineyards. Numerous newspapers picked up the story, and we
have received many media inquiries in response to the AP story.

Rosa Press Democrat (May 27, 2006), Napa
Valley Register and other publications ran follow-up stories,
and Joy, a scent detection dog in training, was featured on
Santa Rosa, CA TV 50 News.
